Introduction of the new Pharmacist

The new Pharmacist Joanna Redding introduced herself and gave a short talk. She comes to the pharmacy with 22 years’ experience and explained some of the new services available in the pharmacy; among these are contraceptive advice, flu jabs and treatment for urinary tract infections and impetigo. She can also make ENT referrals and prescribe antibiotics for minor ailments. She explained that safety is a top priority and healthy living leaflets and advice are available.

She explained that the cost of Saturday opening would not be justified by the potential turnover. Evening opening might be a possibility. Finances are tight as there are believed to be as many as 3,000 too many pharmacies out of 10,000 due to the changing way services are accessed. Posters have been installed asking patients to check their medicines before leaving the pharmacy to reduce waste. A scanning system for medicines will have to be introduce next year to comply with EU regulations.

2. Minutes of meeting held 19th September were agreed. The Chairman would sign as a

true record. As some participants are having trouble accessing the new website, minutes will be sent by email as well until everyone is happy to use the website.

3. Matters Arising and 4. News from the surgery

The two female Urgent Care Practitioners Sian Wood and Kathy Duffner have started along with the Clinical Pharmacist Parina Dattani who does one day per week. She will be able to carry out medication reviews and treat minor ailments.

Extended access to services is popular when it’s at Gnosall but patients are reluctant totravel to other surgeries so that available appointments are not always used.

This year’s flu vaccination programme is continuing and appointments will be available at reception into the new year. Everyone agreed that the sessions were very efficiently organised.

Following the normal practice, 3 trainee doctors will be leaving before Christmas and will be replaced by 3 new trainee doctors by January. It was agreed that it would be helpful to explain their training roles via the big screen in the waiting area and on the website.  The delay time indicated on the self booking in screen is believed to working better now.

5. Patients Participation Group and other external reports (PPG)

No report as Victor Scofield unable to attend the meeting.

6. Parish council matters

Pat Alker reported that Gail Gregory is Chair. The library is expected to open in January and the tennis courts are now open. As part of its dementia friendly initiatives, the parish council is trying to encourage people involved with dementia to create groups and that fees for the use of the Grosvenor centre would be waived for such groups.

7. Treasurer’s Report

Alex reported that the balance in the account was £513.35

8. Correspondence

The area PPG (Patients’ Participation Group) had sent a self assessment document to the surgery which was completed by Nicola Greaves with Alex. The surgery being already involved with the forum, scored with top marks. The next stage is seen as being more of a partnership between the forum and the practice. Alex will discuss this with Nicola Greaves and report back. The forum members would appreciate the availability of some refreshments to be available during meetings.

9 Web Managers reported

As Trevor was unable to attend there was no report. He can be contacted by email at The web address of the forum is'>'>href=''>
